"THERE ARE TIMES WHEN A PERSON DO THE WORST THINGS TO YOU, AND YOU MANAGE TO LOVE AND DEAL WITH IT...BUT THERE ARE ALSO TIMES WHEN A PERSON DO SOMETHING CONSIDERED SMALL, AND IT CHANGES YOUR HEART AND HOW YOU SEE THEM FOREVER" - WILLIE MAE ABNEY
Principally, there are no actions without consequence, and there is no escaping the laws of the universe. So how does the replenishment of your mind body and spirit relate to what I just stated?
Well, I admittingly had a problem with over-extending myself when helping others. I am known as that go-to person with friends and family and will generally assist strangers in need as well. I would drop everything I planned for myself to make sure others are taken care of, but I realized that I was not taking care of my needs. I became drained over time, and I didn't have anything else to give. I depleted myself.
In the past, I made numerous sacrifices to be there for a woman I loved to meet her needs. I expended time and energy to make sure that I helped and would do practically anything to make sure that I was in place to deliver regardless of the circumstances because I believe that is what a real man does. - Real men provide!
Over a period, I realized that I needed mental and spiritual help too because I was dealing with a lot on my job and with personal challenges. The smack in my face was that she did not pay any attention to my needs even when I asked for help. I realized at that moment that I couldn't count on her and that I needed to find other resources.
So my solution was to grow closure to God as my starting point to fulfill my spirit. Secondly, recognize that I was doing too much for others and not enough for myself. The next step was learning how to say no as well as keep selfish people at a distance. The final step is to make sure that I was replenished spiritually, mentally and physically before pouring my energy into someone else.
My greatest lesson from this was to not rely on people to recharge me to avoid disappointment if they did not deliver on my expectations.
By executing my actions, I filled my bucket again within a short period. Initially, I thought I was selfish because I wasn't there like I use to be when others needed me. I snapped out of that way of thinking because I was selfish - to me.
The result is that you must replenish your vessel. You must discover and utilize good resources that keep you motivated and energized to manage your day-to-day. Any other positive energies you receive from people and the universe is just icing on the cake. Just like the safety message you are instructed to listen to before flight departure in case of an emergency is to put the oxygen mask on your self first before assisting others with theirs.
